UNT Health hosts CARNet Meeting

Two individuals at a scientific conference

Cerebrovascular researchers from across the globe are at UNT Health Fort Worth for the 14th Meeting of the Cerebrovascular Research Network.

CARNet is a multi-disciplinary community of researchers from around the world focused on solving problems related to assessment of cerebral blood flow regulation.

The annual meeting includes speakers, poster sessions and a keynote address from Dr. Frank Faraci from the University of Iowa titled “Brain Endothelium: A Hub for Vascular Health and Disease.”

Dr. Caroline Rickards, professor of Physiology and Anatomy, serves as current chair of CARNet and led efforts to organize the event.

CBTS faculty, trainees and alumni were well represented at the meeting including these students and alumni who presented their research and won awards for their presentations.

Michael Eleruja presented his poster titled, “Pulsatile Perfusion Therapy and lower body negative pressure with MRI: Development of a novel experimental protocol.”

Viet Dinh won second place oral presentation award for his abstract talk titled, “To presyncope or not to presyncope? Pulsatile Perfusion Therapy protects cerebral tissue oxygenation and increases tolerance to simulated hemorrhage.”

Dr. K. Austin Davis won third place oral presentation award for his abstract talk titled, “Pulsatile Perfusion Therapy improves the reciprocal relationship between cerebral autoregulation and cardiac baroreflex sensitivity.”

All three conducted their research under the mentorship of Dr. Caroline Rickards.
