HSC-TABS Outreach Programs
The Texas Academy of Biomedical Science was founded in 2011 as a partnership between UNT Health, Fort Worth ISD and Tarrant County College. TABS is an early college high school dedicated to educating students who have expressed interest in biomedical-related careers and areas of study. Since its founding, UNT Health has offered TABS students hands-on opportunities and mentorship in biomedical sciences education, research and career exploration.

Programs
TABS Summer Bridge Program
The TABS Summer Bridge Program is a one-week summer experience for new ninth grade students at TABS. During this program, students visit labs and classrooms on the UNT Health campus to learn more about careers in the biomedical and health sciences. They participate in activities in the anatomy and simulation labs, learn how to suture and read x-rays, and receive guidance and encouragement from UNT Health students during a biomedical sciences career panel.
At the end of the program, TABS students receive their white coats from UNT Health faculty. They will wear these coats through high school during activities such as clinical shadowing and will eventually exchange the white coats for their regalia on graduation day.

TABS Preceptorship Program
The TABS Preceptorship Program is a one-month program for high school seniors at TABS. During this program, students shadow UNT Health faculty, attend lectures and anatomy labs, and tour research labs. These students are paired with UNT Health medical and graduate students during these activities and have a chance to learn about student life and career paths from these UNT Health students.
