IBC Meeting Schedule and Protocol Submission
Who needs to be registered with Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC)?
All work involving biohazard agents, recombinant and/or synthetic nucleic acid molecules, viral vectors, use of human blood, body fluids or tissues, gene therapy, human cells, animal cells, tissue, toxins, non human primates, use of USDA agents or CDC select agents must be registered and in some cases, approved by the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) prior to initiation of work. It is the responsibility of the Principal Investigator to submit a completed IBC application/registration to the Institutional Biosafety Committee
IBC Protocol submission process (NEW)
All activities involving potentially biohazardous materials (pathogens) must be registered with and approved by the Institutional Biosafety Committee. Before any research with biohazard material can begin, an IBC Protocol will need to be reviewed and approved by our Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC). Complete the Protocol submission forms and email to maya.nair@unthealth.edu and ibc@unthealth.edu

- Please refer to NIH Guidelines while completing the research research involves any rDNA or synthetic DNA, shRNA, siRNA or viral vectors.
- Research involving nanoparticles please refer to SOP for research involving nanoparticles while completing the IBC protocol submission form.
- Changes to your approved protocols can be submitted using the UNTHSC_IBC_amendment_form.
- Clinical research involving biohazard material ( Human fluids and tissue analysis -complete the UNTHSC IBC protocol submission 2025
- Clinical research involving ONLY sample collection by trained professionals – complete Clinical Research Registration form.
- Please register your research involving non-hazardous animal samples and storage only of biological samples using the IBC notification form – Notification to IBC Storage and Healthy animal tissue
IBC meeting schedule
The deadline allows sufficient time for revision of the draft submission to ensure an administratively complete application is available to the committee in an effort to expedite review and approval. Incomplete submissions may necessitate a delay in consideration to a subsequent meeting. For questions regarding the protocol submission process, please contact the Bio Safety Program Office (ibc@unthealth.edu).
IBC meets on the third Wednesday of every month from 12 Noon to 1 p.m.
